**Episode 3 – Izvorul Muntelui Lake**

Along the course of the river Bistrița, from Poiana Largului to just short of Bicaz, lies Romania’s largest artificial lake created on its inland rivers: “Izvorul Muntelui” Lake. Stretching over 35 km, the expanse of water together with the surrounding hills, villages nestled in the valleys and distant mountain peaks provides picturesque scenery that can easily be seen from the road that closely follows the lake’s shore. At the viewpoint at Hangu, nature is displayed in all its splendour in the reflection of “Pionul” – Mount Ceahlău – in the waters of the “sea between mountains”, as Izvorul Muntelui Lake has been called.

Before reaching Bicaz, the lake is held back by Romania’s largest gravity dam on its inland rivers, standing 127 m high and holding back 1,250,000 m³ of water. The harbour on the lake, situated near the dam, warmly offers trips on the lake by boat, pedal boat or small passenger boat, as well as local dishes and overnight accommodation, all in clean air with delightful views.
