Văratec Monastery and Museum Collection
Founded in 1785 by nun Olimpiada under the guidance of Abbot Paisius Velichkovsky, Văratec is Romania's largest convent, with over 400 nuns.
Its museum, in the former 'Queen Marie' workshop, keeps charters, manuscripts, old books, silverware, embroideries and icons. Among the oldest pieces are 15th-century tempera icons brought from Râșca Monastery. The monastery cemetery holds the grave of poet Veronica Micle.

The patronal feast of Văratec Monastery, on the Dormition of the Mother of God. The following days commemorate Saint Joseph of Văratec and Saint George the Pilgrim, whose relics are kept at the monastery.
