The sheepfold is reached by an off-road track, 2 km, on an exposed slope with gradients of over 30%. You can go by 4×4 or on foot. From the top, at the sheepfold, visitors enjoy the panorama of the Farcașa commune and the mountain heights. The views are delightful. The sheepfold is signalled by a huge cross, in the place of the fir tree where, in the old days, there was a cross that burned after being struck by lightning.

The Crucea Arsă sheepfold in Popești village is the most famous in Farcașa and in the county. For bookings, call 0762.280.95.

Here, visitors can also enjoy festive meals featuring traditional products, follow “the journey of milk” from the source to the plate, go on wild berry-picking hikes and gather around campfires. For bookings, call 0742.529.613.

Văcărie tourist sheepfold, run by the Apa Rece-Frumosu Association, sits perched at 700 m altitude on Văcărie peak in the Bistrița Mountains, about 4 km from the commune centre. The road is off-road uphill for 2 km, with hairpin bends, suitable for 4×4 vehicles.

The mountain views over the commune of Farcașa and the Bistrița valley are remarkable. Visitors can sample dairy products here, enjoy hearty meals with cheeses and local specialities: grilled lamb or pork, lamb or mutton roasted on a spit, and lamb soups and sour broths you will not find anywhere else.

Hikes, wild berry-picking sessions and campfires are organised. Visitors can camp for free. Transport on the off-road stretch is free of charge. For bookings, call 0741.796.702 or 0722.343.193.
