Tourist attractions around Roznov

2 min read

The cultural and religious sights, beautiful natural surroundings and wealth of folk traditions make the Roznov area a real draw for visitors. Alongside these attractions, visitors can also explore rural Neamț, where authentic spiritual values and the nation's traditions live on.

Saint Nicolae Church in Roznov – set in Roznov Park, “Saint Nicolae” Church was built in the late 19th century by the well-known landowner and politician, Colonel Gheorghe Ruset Roznovanu, in memory of his son, Alexandru, who died of pneumonia at the age of 20. The church is striking for its architecture, unusual in this area, as though it belonged among the churches that dominate Russia's landscape. This reflects the Roznovanu family's ties with the Russian nobility and the tsar.

Duras Waterfall in Negulești – formed 4.5 km upstream from the resort of Negulești, on the upper reaches of Iapa Stream. The road starts in front of the resort and continues to the Frasin Forestry Office, where there is a wooden barrier. From here, after approximately 300 m, the waterfall's swirling water comes into view on the left through the dense fir branches. To reach the waterfall, you need to descend a steeper slope through the forest, then make your way over the stones beside the stream to approach the base of the falls.

Nechit Monastery – The monastic settlement at Nechit stands in a glade on the western edge of Nechit village, surrounded by wooded hills. This spot was chosen by the hermit Nechita, who lived an ascetic life and prayed in these hills, and whose name was given to the valley, mountain and stream surrounding his place of worship. The first masonry church was built in 1875, and Nechit Hermitage once again became a thriving monastic settlement. The settlement also includes four buildings housing monastic cells and service facilities, as well as Pelerinul House – a three-storey wooden building to the south, impressive for its architectural craftsmanship.

Tazlău Monastery – The monastic settlement at Tazlău is first mentioned in a document from 30 October 1458, when Stephen the Great, at the request of Eustatie, abbot of Bistrița Monastery, confirmed the boundaries of the protected woodland belonging to Tazlău Monastery as far as Răchitiș. Between 1496 and 1497, the masonry “Nașterea Maicii Domnului” Church at Tazlău was built on the site of the old wooden church erected by Alexander the Good, becoming one of the most monumental foundations of Voivode Stephen the Great.
