Duras Waterfall - Negulesti

To reach Duras Waterfall in Negulesti, Neamț County, you must first cross Piatra Șoimului commune, which stretches along the Calu and Iapa streams. From Piatra Neamț, drive along the road towards Bacau. At Roznov, turn right towards Tazlău, then turn right again immediately after the first bridge towards Piatra Șoimului. Piatra Șoimului commune comprises the villages of Piatra Șoimului, Negulesti, Luminis and Poieni and lies where the eastern part of the Tarcău Mountains meets the Cracau-Bistrița sub-Carpathian depression.

Piatra Șoimului commune also contains the remains of the fortress at Horodistea, evidence that the area was continuously inhabited from the Neolithic period to the time of the Geto-Dacians. Another important destination in the commune is Negulesti Spa and Climatic Resort. The resort lies among wooded hills of distinctive beauty and charm.

The banks of both streams are also densely wooded with wild, picturesque forests that have yet to be logged.

Photos of Duras Waterfall – Negulesti, Neamț County

A road leads from Negulesti Resort to Duras Waterfall, a beautiful small waterfall whose enchanting character makes it a real visitor attraction in the area. The scenery here is remarkable: over time, the Iapa and Calu streams have carved transverse valleys whose distinctive beauty comes from the alternating narrow sections and broad basins within the defile.

Duras Waterfall formed 4.5 km upstream from Negulesti Resort, on the upper reaches of the Iapa stream. The road starts in front of the resort and continues to the Frasin Forestry Office, where there is a wooden barrier. From here, after approximately 300 m, the churning water of the waterfall comes into view on the left through the dense fir branches. To reach the waterfall, you must descend a fairly steep slope through the forest, then follow the rocks beside the stream to get close to the foot of the falls.

From Duras Waterfall, you can continue along the forest road for approximately 2-3 km downstream on the mountainside to Veselarul Lake, a naturally dammed lake covering 3,500 sq m. Here, the unleashed forces of nature have created a unique, intriguing and exceptionally beautiful landscape.
