A Walk through Nechitului Valley
A Walk to Nechit
Visitors to the Neamț region who want to discover more of its oldest and most beautiful places, as well as its well-known villages, can set off on an unforgettable walk through Nechitului Valley. Here they can admire a unique spot in peaceful, refreshing surroundings, where the landscape of flowering pastures and centuries-old forests is a pleasure to behold.
Nechitului Valley has been quite densely populated since the 14th century, when several rural settlements were established, also mentioned in records of the princely chancellery. Situated upstream along the Nechit stream, the village of Nechit is isolated, its character shaped by the terrain and the stream’s relatively narrow valley.
The village still retains a few old houses typical of the area’s traditional architecture. These traditional houses stand on high foundations of dressed stone and have hipped roofs covered with fish-scale wooden shingles, verandas enclosed with fretwork boards supported by wooden posts, and small windows fitted with iron bars on the inside.
Here, arable land consists of small, scattered plots, while pastures and hay meadows are more plentiful.
A Walk to Nechit, Neamț County

Also in the valley of the Nechit stream, in a particularly picturesque natural setting, lies the old monastic settlement of Nechit Monastery. The first monk said to have pursued an ascetic life here was Nichita Sihastrul, whose name was later given to the stream, valley and mountain overlooking his place of worship. The monastery stands in a glade on the western edge of the village of Nechit, surrounded by wooded hills to the south, north and west, with an open view towards the village. The scenery is very beautiful, and a traditional wooden gate, 100 m from the church, leads from the road into the grounds.
The majestic mountain ridges, fir forests and the babbling of the nearby river will help you relax, forget your everyday worries and rediscover the pleasure of being surrounded by nature.
