History and Archaeology Museum Piatra Neamț – founded in 1934 by the priest Constantin Matasa. The history museum’s permanent exhibition, made up of cultural objects classified in the Treasury category of the national cultural heritage, traces the development of human communities in this area from the Upper Palaeolithic to the contemporary period.

Cucuteni Eneolithic Art Museum Piatra Neamț – opened in the summer of 2005 and is Romania’s first Cucuteni museum. The museum occupies its own building opposite the Curtea Domneasca architectural complex in Piatra Neamț and displays around 300 objects from the Precucuteni and Cucuteni cultures, classified in the “Treasury” category of the national cultural heritage.

The Natural Sciences Museum in Piatra Neamț was founded in 1960, and its permanent exhibition offers a comprehensive study of Neamț County from geological, palaeontological, botanical, zoological and ecological perspectives. The museum currently holds approximately 40,000 specimens in its fauna collections and over 10,000 herbarium sheets in its flora collections. It also houses a collection of fossil fish found nowhere else in the world, as well as rare exhibits from the geology, fauna and flora of the Neamț mountains. The museum also displays specimens of bivalves, gastropods, arachnids and reptiles from the Oligocene formations at Piatra Neamț.

The permanent exhibition includes family documents, manuscripts, original furniture and the writer’s personal belongings.

The Art Museum in Piatra Neamț offers an overview of the development of the visual arts (painting, graphic art, sculpture and tapestry) produced by Romanian artists in the late 19th century and throughout the 20th century. The works of sculptors Ion Irimescu and Ion Jalea and painters Gh. Petrascu, Fr. Sirato, St. Popescu, N. Tonitza, I. Tuculescu and Corneliu Baba trace the interwar period in Romanian art, shaped by the influence of European movements that developed in the 20th century.

Ethnography Museum in Piatra Neamț: The museum’s first ethnographic collection dates from 1960, comprises approximately 1,000 objects and was assembled following research undertaken by the Romanian Academy. Today, the museum’s core collection presents aspects of traditional rural homes in Bistritei Valley, the area’s age-old Romanian folk costume and the main crafts (weaving, woodworking and sheepskin coat making) of the sub-Carpathian region of Moldavia.

The “Calistrat Hogaș” Memorial Museum Piatra Neamț opened in 1969 in the house where the writer Calistrat Hogaș lived. Built in 1885, the house has a distinctive architectural style and is listed among the architectural monuments of the National Cultural Heritage.
