Traditions and crafts in Neamt County
In Neamt County many old traditions and crafts are kept alive by the local artisans. Every detail of these crafts that are transmitted from one generation to another reflects the history and the cultural heritage of this area.
Neamt County is well known for the local traditional clothing, embroideries, furniture, pottery, tapestry, carpets and traditional masks created to celebrate the winter holidays. The craft of wood working stands out through the variety of the techniques used and the importance that this craft used to have in creating the daily used objects.
The manufacturing of the traditional masks is tightly connected to winter holidays and that is why these objects have a great emotional load. The masks represent animals mostly but also human figures. The fabrics and the embroideries that used to decorate the traditional clothing, the walls and the tables of a traditional house are now handmade by local artisans.
