Charity event: Carol concert in Piatra Neamț

On Tuesday, 21 December 2010, at 18:00, the House of Culture in Piatra Neamț will host a carol concert, featuring an unusual choice of musical instruments and a strong charitable purpose. The proceeds from the event will be donated to children at the “Pietricica” Social Centre and the “Castani” Day Centre for Preschool Children in Piatra Neamț.

Christmas gives us an opportunity to open our hearts to beauty and to be kinder and more generous towards those who are less fortunate and have little happiness in their lives. In the spirit of Christmas, you can attend this charity carol concert, enjoy fine music and offer these children a small gift.

The carol concert will be performed by the small bell orchestra and the “Mesagerii Sperantei” bell orchestra, conducted by Geanina Salagean, a teacher at Victor Brauner Art High School in Piatra Neamț. The “Mesagerii sperantei” bell ensemble was founded in 2003 by a group of teenagers and soon attracted attention and won the public’s appreciation.

From 2006, some of the ensemble’s members changed, and Geanina Salagean conducted the orchestra. Over its seven years of activity, the ensemble has given numerous recitals in towns and cities across the country and abroad. The ensemble currently consists of 13 talented children from several high schools and schools in Piatra Neamț.

What makes this orchestra distinctive is its choice of instruments: chimes. These chimes were made hundreds of years ago in southern Asia and parts of China from bamboo tubes that struck a fixed object. Alongside the “Mesagerii Sperantei” ensemble, violinists Theodor Constantiniu, Sara Stroici and Ioana Covrig will give recitals, as will sopranos Alexandra Grigoras, Bianca Laiu, Roxana Mihut and Adina Vilichi, accompanied by teacher Adrian Stroici.
