A unique exhibition of Swiss watches, “Înțelepciunea vine cu timpul”
On Saturday 23 June 2012, at 12:00, the temporary exhibition “Înțelepciunea vine cu timpul” will open at the Museum of History and Archaeology in Piatra Neamț. The watches belong to Romulus Lupașcu, a local resident with a passion for collecting timepieces. He has agreed to display some of the pieces he has collected over the years.
Romulus Lupașcu measures time with hundreds of collectable pocket watches and wristwatches, both automatic and manually wound. For him, a watch is more than an object you glance at to check the exact time; it is a fascinating mechanism that measures time through an intricate network of gears, shafts and springs.
The local resident’s collection also includes a pocket watch dating from 1870 and one of the earliest wristwatches, made of silver around 1920. One of the rare pieces is a ladies’ automatic pendant watch, an “Eterna” made in 1968. The collector, who believes his collection has no rival in the country, particularly cherishes models from a series associated with the flight to the Moon. For that expedition, NASA selected the “Omega Speedmaster” from watches produced by 200 companies and equipped the astronauts with it. The “Speedmaster” model that went to the Moon was named “Moonwatch”. The collection to be displayed at the museum also includes examples of this model.
The exhibition organisers invite you to the History and Archaeology Museum in Piatra Neamț to admire these rare and exceptionally beautiful pieces.
